As part of efforts to combat the ravaging effect of climate change through deforestation, among other factors, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Adamawa Coordinating state, Yola, is advocating the use of briquettes as fuel energy for domestic and industrial purposes as against the felling of trees.
This initiative was highlighted during a visit by the office led by the RMRDC Coordinator in the state, Mr T. Honda to Ziki Global Concept, an Adamawa based company producing Briquette Charcoal with the use of Agricultural raw materials waste, recently.
The RMRDC Adamawa State Office is equally proposing to partner with the Adamawa State Ministry of Entrepreneurship to raise awareness on the benefits of briquette charcoal and educate the public on its advantage to reduce deforestation to the barest minimal; over the traditional charcoal made from tree trunk.
Speaking during the visit, the CEO Ziki Global Concept, Mr. Ezra Sini, who also chairs the Briquette Charcoal Making Association Adamawa Chapter, explained that his company specializes in producing briquette charcoal using agricultural waste products such as groundnut shells, maize cobs, sugarcane bagasse, rice husks, and cassava flour as a binder.
Mr. Sini emphasized that his company’s goal is to introduce a product that reduces deforestation, which is a devastating effect that can lead to erosion, global warming, and other environmental hazards.
He detailed the production process at his company, which uses a self-constructed briquette machine comprising three sets of machines. The setup includes a carbonization chamber for burning waste products and a car battery-powered dryer for drying charcoal in the absence of sunlight.
