The RMRDC Sokoto State Coordinating Office has taken another significant step towards strengthening research and innovation partnerships through a courtesy visit to Sokoto State Polytechnic on Monday.
The visit, led by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Nadia Abubakar Bawa, was aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration in the development, processing, and utilization of Sokoto State’s abundant mineral and agricultural raw materials, with particular emphasis on research into hydrated limestone (Calcium Hydroxide, Ca (OH)₂).
The RMRDC delegation was warmly received by the Director of the College of Engineering, Mr. Abdullah Abubakar alongside, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Mr. Tuku Alkalic, and Head of the civil Engineering Department, Mr. Sanusi Ibrahim Bawale.
During the engagement, the State Coordinator highlighted RMRDC’s interest in promoting research and industrial applications of hydrated limestone, an important industrial raw material derived from limestone through calcination and hydration processes. She underscored the growing importance of hydrated limestone in sectors such as water treatment, agriculture, construction, leather processing and chemical manufacturing.

Beyond hydrated limestone, discussions also focused on the need for stronger collaboration in the research and development of mineral and agro-based raw materials available within Sokoto State. The State Coordinator emphasized that harnessing these resources through research, value addition, and commercialization is essential for promoting industrial growth, creating employment opportunities, and supporting economic diversification.
In response, the Director of the College of Engineering, Mr. Abdullah Abubakar who spoke on behalf of the management, expressed readiness to partner with RMRDC in advancing raw materials research and development. He noted that the College of Engineering possesses the technical expertise, laboratory facilities, and human resources required to support analytical studies, processing technologies, and joint research initiatives involving students and academic staff.
The meeting concluded with both organizations agreeing in principle to establish a strategic working relationship aimed at supporting research, innovation, and industrial development in the state. Sokoto State Polytechnic pledged to provide technical support in the analysis and processing of mineral and agro-raw materials, while RMRDC committed to sharing information on priority raw materials and identified research gaps for possible joint projects and proposals.
The visit marks an important milestone in RMRDC’s efforts to strengthen collaboration between research institutions and industry stakeholders, while unlocking the economic potential of Sokoto State’s mineral and agricultural resources for sustainable industrial development.
