In a continued effort to enhance institutional efficiency and staff performance, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), through its Performance Management System (PMS) Unit, has conducted a one-day capacity-building training for personnel at its Kaduna State Coordinating Office.
The training, held on July 28 at the RMRDC Kaduna office, was facilitated by Mr. Usman AbdulRazak of the PMS Unit, headquartered in Abuja. The initiative aimed to align individual and departmental efforts with the Council’s strategic goals, thereby improving overall productivity and service delivery.
During the session, participants were introduced to the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) framework for setting objectives, enabling them to ensure that their daily responsibilities are directly tied to the Council’s overarching mandate. This structured approach is designed to promote coherence, clarity, and effectiveness across departments.
The training also emphasized the importance of continuous performance monitoring and regular feedback. Staff were acquainted with tools for real-time tracking and biannual performance reviews, which are intended to help identify potential gaps early and allow for timely corrective measures.
Another focus of the training was talent development and succession planning. Mr. AbdulRazak highlighted the role of performance data in designing targeted staff training programs and identifying high-performing individuals for leadership grooming. This approach is expected to strengthen the Council’s talent pipeline and ensure continuity in key roles.
In addition, the session underscored the link between performance and recognition. Participants were reminded that reward systems must be tied to measurable outputs, while also adhering to public service standards that promote fairness, transparency, and accountability.
Addressing the participants, the Kaduna State Coordinator of RMRDC, Mr. Shehu Jibrin Mutallab, lauded the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward cultivating a performance-driven work culture. “This training has reignited our collective commitment to excellence. We now have a clearer understanding of how our daily responsibilities contribute to the Council’s national objectives,” he said. “I encourage everyone to apply what they’ve learned and to embrace future training opportunities.”
Mr. Mutallab further announced that interested staff members will now be required to complete a formal Training Feedback and Application Form as part of the standard process for selecting participants in future development programs. The form will help identify skills gaps and performance needs, ensuring that future training aligns with both individual growth and institutional priorities.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the training, noting its relevance and its potential to significantly enhance their efficiency and professional development.
The capacity-building exercise reflects RMRDC’s ongoing commitment to institutional strengthening and workforce development across all its offices, in pursuit of its mandate to promote the effective utilization of local raw materials for Nigeria’s industrial advancement.
