Efforts to promote sustainable beekeeping practices, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Ekiti State Coordinating Office, collaborates with All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), in a forum with the theme, “Promoting Sustainable Beekeeping for Increased Honey Production and Economic Development,” on Wednesday 18th of June, 2025 at AFAN Office, Agric road, Ado Ekiti.
The Ekiti State acting coordinator, Mr. Giwa Mathew, represented by Mr. Odukoya Adeleke (SSO) reveal to the participants of how Ekiti State had benefited from the programmes of RMRDC for decades including the sericulture project at Erifun and boosting of agro raw materials with the distribution of improved seeds/seedlings to farmers for multiplication and increased crop yields.
He said that the Investors’ fora are aimed at bringing together investors, policy makers and other stakeholders, to catalyse interest on projects that have comparative advantage in the states of the federation. Adding that the one to be organized in Ekiti state seeks to promote sustainable beekeeping practices and value addition to enhance honey production and boost economic activities.
According to him, “We have received a mandate from the headquarters to organize an investors’ forum this year in Ekiti State. And FEBKAN is a major stakeholder and beneficiary of this project. We are here to sensitize and galvanize your support to organize a resourceful and successful event.”
In his response, the chairman of Ekiti State FEBKAN, Honourable Tope Egunjobi, expressed his joy at the benefits the project will bring to the members and the state at large. He welcomed RMRDC staff and introduced both the executives and members of the association present.
He said assuredly, “We will work on this letter of request and cooperate with your mandate.”
Speaking at the forum, the chairman, Barr. (Mrs.) Olumilua Yimika, a member with a dignitary status appreciated the Director General, RMRDC, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, for reviving such a project. She also appreciated Evang. Daramola Jacob, the financial secretary of the association for his efforts at promoting the interest of FEBKAN at RMRDC Ekiti State Office.
Mrs Yimika however called for the active involvement of FEBKAN at the planning phase of the project, and the assistance of the Council to set up and equip a “Bee Village,” a cluster of bee farmers and processors in Ekiti State, aimed at value addition and security of investment.
