The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has initiated a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) to harness technology, intelligence and research in safeguarding Nigeria’s raw materials ecosystem while also strengthening national security. The collaboration was underscored during a courtesy visit by the Director General of RMRDC, Professor Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, to the Commissioner of Police in charge of the NPF-NCCC, CP H.I. Uche, at the Centre’s headquarters in Abuja. Both leaders emphasized that the synergy between their institutions would create win-win outcomes for Nigeria’s industrial growth and security architecture.

At the heart of the discussions was the protection of raw materials data and digital infrastructure, particularly the Raw Materials Information System and the e-Registration Portal managed by RMRDC. These platforms are critical to national planning and industrialization, and the NPF-NCCC is expected to provide support in strengthening their cybersecurity. In turn, RMRDC will provide intelligence on raw materials industries and facilities requiring protection, thereby guiding the security agency in prioritizing its enforcement strategies. The partnership also extends to protecting critical industrial infrastructure, especially as industries relying on local raw materials face increasing threats of cyberattacks, sabotage and data breaches. By designing preventive security frameworks with the input of RMRDC’s sectoral expertise, the Police Cybercrime Centre will be better equipped to address such risks.

Both organizations also agreed on mutual capacity building, where RMRDC will train cybercrime officers on the structure of Nigeria’s industrial value chain while the NPF-NCCC will equip RMRDC staff with the skills needed to manage cyber risks, monitor threats and build resilience. There was a strong commitment to engage in joint research and innovation to produce indigenous digital forensics tools for industrial crime detection as well as secure supply chain management technologies, with opportunities for collaborative publications, innovation grants and policy inputs. Beyond security and research, the collaboration will also address the challenge of misinformation. The DG of RMRDC expressed concern over deliberate distortions about the Council’s work, and both parties agreed to mount awareness campaigns to counter such narratives and strengthen public trust in the raw materials development agenda.

Commissioner of Police H.I. Uche commended the initiative as a timely convergence of industrial and security mandates, stressing that the partnership would enhance Nigeria’s capacity to protect its resource-based economy from cyber and physical threats. In his remarks, Professor Ike-Muonso reaffirmed that the alliance represents a national model for inter-agency cooperation, combining RMRDC’s developmental mandate with the NPF-NCCC’s enforcement and cyber expertise. He concluded that by protecting Nigeria’s raw materials intelligence and industrial systems, the two institutions are equally safeguarding jobs, investments and national prosperity.
