The Raw Material Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, in a collaborative effort, moved to enhance the local sourcing of Lime for water purification purposes in the state. This initiative aims at leveraging Nigeria’s abundant resources to produce high-quality lime water which is essential for water treatment and purification processes.
This was disclosed when the Ondo State Coordinating Office, Mr. Owolabi Oluyinka recently, led a team on a working visit to the Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, in Akure, Ondo State. He said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce dependency on imported materials and promote local industries by utilizing indigenous raw materials.

The RMRDC has a strong track record of facilitating the development and commercialization of local raw materials to support various sectors, including water purification, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.
Speaking during the visit, the Hon. Commissioner, Akinwalere Sunday expressed the willingness of his Ministry to collaborate with the Council on such a project. He believed that the project would have a significant impact on the people of the State.
The RMRDC Ondo state co-ordinator, Mr Owolabi Oluyinka appreciated the commissioner for giving them an audience despite his tight schedule and said he is looking forward to making the project a big reality which will be a credit to both parties.
Similarly, RMRDC Ondo state coordinating office also paid a working visit to Engr. Rasaq Obe, the Hon. Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources Ondo state.
Owolabi said the visit was to foster the good relationship existing between RMRDC and the Ondo State Government and to further explore new opportunities for economic development in the state.
He stressed the need to organize a sensitization program through workshops and seminars to attract more investors as Ondo state has a comparative advantage in Bitumen resources.
Owolabi further said RMRDC will continue to play its crucial role in sourcing industrial raw materials locally and create accessibility for investors for economic development in the state. “The Council has supported some industries in the state such as the Ikakumo Cashew Industry in Oke-Akoko, and the Cocoa Catalytic project in Alade, Idanre,” he said.
The Ondo state commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Engr. Rasaq Obe said the Council can key in to make the state viable because it has a comparative advantage over other states in terms of the presence of large deposits of Bitumen which has the potential of attracting investors to the states if properly harnessed.
Owolabi thanked and informed the commissioner the Council’s willingness to bring investors who would explore the national deposit in the state for job creation for its people and Nigeria at large.
