In alignment with the Jigawa State Government’s agricultural transformation policy, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and the Technical Advisor to the State Governor on Agriculture convened a pivotal meeting, held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The gathering aimed to familiarize the Technical Advisor and officials with RMRDC’s initiatives designed to foster agricultural growth and development across the nation.
During the meeting, Mr. Aminu Dandawaki, Principal Scientific Officer, presented an overview of RMRDC’s mandate, mission, and vision. He highlighted the council’s dedication to advancing the agricultural sector through a variety of initiatives. Following this, Mr. Bashar Magaji, Senior Scientific Officer, provided detailed insights into RMRDC’s programs, emphasizing livestock breed improvement, artificial insemination, crop production enhancement, local raw material sourcing, technology transfer, and organizing workshops and training sessions. He also stressed the importance of the state resource center for investors exploring Jigawa’s raw material potentials, while expressing concerns about its current condition and the need for an upgrade.

Dr. Safullahi Umar, the Technical Advisor, expressed his appreciation for the briefing on RMRDC’s capabilities. He emphasized the potential for significant progress through collaboration, particularly in addressing challenges such as post-harvest losses, processing technology, and value addition in agricultural products. He also underscored the importance of modernizing farming methods to replace traditional practices among Jigawa State farmers and highlighted the necessity of processing technologies for fruits like dates, mangoes, watermelons, and cashews to extend shelf life and create value-added products.
To further address these challenges and explore collaborative opportunities, Dr. Safullahi announced plans to visit the RMRDC state resource center for a thorough assessment, to report his findings to the Governor for necessary action.
The meeting concluded on a positive note with the exchange of RMRDC publications and a mutual commitment to a strong partnership. Both parties expressed optimism about the collaboration’s potential to significantly improve agricultural productivity, food security, and economic development in Jigawa State.
