The Director General, Raw Materials Research and Development Council( RMRDC), Prof. Nnanyelugo M. Ike-Muonso during the conference of the National Consultative Committee on Competitiveness (NCCC) in Raw Materials and Products Development in Nigeria with the theme “Harnessing Local Resources For Diversifying Nigeria Economy and Enhancing Global Competitiveness Ranking” held at the Councils headquarters Abuja, had charged on critical stakeholders to join hands in repositioning Nigeria in the global competitiveness in raw materials and products ranking.
While speaking at the 2-day Conference, the DG said, the event is a unique homegrown strategy anchored on applying innovation, science, and technology to raw materials and product development.
Explaining further, he stated that the conference shall facilitate strategic alliances between research-focused organizations and industry, enhancing the intensity of industry-demand-driven research and development activities, developing national quality infrastructure, promoting adherence to standards and quality assurance, and producing high-quality raw materials and products to increase Nigeria’s competitiveness on the global stage.
“Therefore, this technical workshop/conference allows us to deliberate on critical issues ranging from competitiveness advocacy to the commercialization of R&D breakthroughs. This workshop provides for plenary and sub-committee breakout sessions, creating platforms for stakeholders to deliberate on the eleven thematic areas of interest. These areas include competitiveness advocacy, institutional and organizational arrangements, policy and legal framework, human resource development, infrastructure development in research and development, industry and business development, monitoring and evaluation, data development and management, finance and funding, and commercialization of R&D breakthroughs”, the DG said.
He stated that he is positive that the two-day event will yield highly impactful outcomes capable of galvanizing the economy to an enviable level of competitiveness following the high-level representation from Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs), the Organized Private Sector (OPS), academia, development partners, civil society organizations, and the media, who shall be pre-assigned to all the technical committees based on their organization’s mandates.
The DG thanked everyone, urging for intentionality to achieve this great assignment, saying, that as the Secretariat of the Strategy Implementation Task Unit (SITU), the Council will continue to support, administer, and coordinate the activities of the NCCC to implement the resulting strategy successfully.
