The Federal Government has unveiled a 10-year roadmap to harness the country’s raw materials potential for national economic growth and industrial development. The roadmap was launched by the Honourable Minister for State Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh at the close of the 3-day Africa Raw Materials Summit in Abuja on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
The Honourable Minister described the roadmap as a bold initiative that has the potential to radically transform the industrial sector of the Nigerian economy. He commended the Director General of Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Prof Nnanyelugo M. Ike-Muonso for his vision in coming up with the roadmap and urged the Council to ensure that the document was fully implemented.

Speaking during the launch, the RMRDC DG stated that the roadmap is a multi-agency document and “the responsibility for implementation is distributed among relevant departments, agencies, and private sector stakeholders, ensuring accountability at every stage”. Prof. Ike-Muonso stated further that the roadmap will enhance decision-making, optimize resource allocation, and drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s raw materials industry.
The key objectives enumerated in the 10-year roadmap are as follows: create a robust database for raw materials mapping and development; achieve 30-95% value addition to raw materials by 2034; strengthen partnerships and collaborations across public, private and international spheres; and build capacity by delivering 10,000 certifications and standards to laboratories and processes.
