The Osun State Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) recently hosted a high-level meeting with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry at its state office, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss ways of strengthening collaboration and boosting economic development in Osun State.
The newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Gbenga Oyelowo who visited the Osun-RMRDC state coordinating office, was warmly welcomed by the State Coordinator, Mr. Adeyemi Saheed A., who expressed gratitude for the visit and highlighted the strong relationship between the two organizations.
During the meeting, Mr. Adeyemi elaborated on the mandate of RMRDC, which is to promote the development and utilization of Nigeria’s vast natural resources for industrial growth. He noted that the Council’s efforts have been focused on identifying and developing the state’s raw materials potential, with a view to driving industrialization and economic growth. Mr. Adeyemi also highlighted the various initiatives and programs implemented by RMRDC to achieve its mandate, including research and development projects, capacity building, partnership with stakeholders, technology transfer, raw materials database development, value chain development, entrepreneurship training, industry-academia collaboration and many more.

The State Coordinator applauded the Director-General’s efforts, which emphasize strengthening ties with organizations and industries at the state level. He noted that this mandate has been a driving force for the state office, enabling them to build meaningful partnerships and leverage opportunities for growth and development in Osun State. Mr. Adeyemi expressed optimism that the partnership between RMRDC and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry would yield significant benefits for the state’s economy.
Mr. Adeyemi also briefed the Permanent Secretary on an upcoming one-day Investor’s Forum on Sweet Potato Value Chain Development, themed “Investment Opportunities in the Production, Processing, and Marketing of Sweet Potato and its Value-Added Products.” The forum aims to attract investors and promote economic growth in the state by showcasing the potential of the sweet potato value chain. Mr. Adeyemi expressed optimism that the forum would provide a platform for stakeholders to explore opportunities and collaborate on projects that would benefit the state’s economy.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Oyelowo, extended his sincere appreciation to the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) for hosting him and his team. He commended the Council’s tireless efforts in driving industrialization, recognizing the significant impact of their work on the state’s economic landscape. Seeking to build on this momentum, Mr. Oyelowo expressed his interest in forging a strategic partnership between RMRDC and the Ministry. This collaboration, he noted, would be geared towards boosting Osun State’s economic and industrial development, leveraging the strengths of both organizations to achieve shared goals and drive growth.
The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to explore ways of working together to drive economic growth and development in the state where great potential lies, considering the huge resources in the state. This shared commitment is expected to drive economic growth, and development in Ogun state.
