The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) is set to partner with the Abuja Enterprise to revolutionize the shea butter industry in Nigeria. The collaboration aims to enhance the production, processing, and commercialization of shea butter, promoting sustainable development and empowering local communities.
This was announced when a team from the RMRDC, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)office, led by the State Coordinator Mr. Isiaka Salihu paid a working visit to the Abuja Enterprise Agency, where Mr. Isiaka emphasized the significance of the initiative and the need to renew the relationship between the two parties. He said Shea butter is a valuable resource with immense economic potential. “The partnership will unlock great potential, creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and contributing to Nigeria’s sustainable development,” He said.
The Acting Managing Director of the Agency, Mr. Chudi Ezirigwe welcomed the initiative. He explained that the Agency focuses on the development of micro, small and medium enterprises and also assist new and existing entrepreneurs to overcome obstacles to growth through access to finance, proper business and developing entrepreneurship skills.
He recounted the existing relationship between the Council and his agency which he claimed has not yielded the desired results. He urged both parties to work assiduously to ensure the project becomes a success. He stated that the agency is committed to harnessing the power of shea butter to transform lives in FCT and beyond. “With RMRDC expertise and our resources, we will establish a sustainable shea butter value chain, benefiting thousands of Nigerians”, he observed.
In his response, Mr. Isiaka expressed his appreciation to the management of the Agency for the eagerness to support the development of shea butter in FCT. He reiterated the Council’s efforts to bridge the gap in shea butter value chain by establishing the Shea butter orchard at Gawu with the intent to replicate same in other parts of FCT. He said the collaboration will also revisit the abandoned shea butter project in Abaji.
He assured the Agency of the readiness of the Council under the leadership of Prof. Nnanyelugo M. Ike-Muonso to promote and develop any project capable of transforming the economy of Nigeria.
