The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Taraba State Coordinating Office is planning a partnership with the Taraba State University (TSU) Skills Acquisition Center Jalingo to explore collaborative opportunities for innovation and skills development.

This was made known when a team from RMRDC led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Ahmed Musa Waziri visited the center recently. They were received by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Dauda I. Suntai, and his staff. The visit aimed to identify opportunities for joint work on selected agricultural raw materials, leveraging Taraba State’s comparative advantage.
Professor Suntai while emphasizing the timeliness of the visit, highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship development in addressing youth restiveness and praised RMRDC’s efforts in adding value to Nigeria’s natural resources.
“We are committed to supporting the growth and development of our region through entrepreneurship and innovative support, skills acquisition and training, research and development of raw materials, commercialization of research output etc “, he said.
According to the state coordinator, Mr. Ahmed, the partnership is a significant step towards achieving the Council’s mandate of promoting the development and utilization of Nigerians’ raw materials. He said the Council is excited to work with the University’s Skill acquisition center to create opportunities for innovation and skills development.

He explained some of the Council’s achievements, “We have over 41 patents and have established the Technology Innovation Complex (TIC) with over 20 pilot plants for processing various agro and mineral-based raw materials”, he noted.
Both parties also planned to have a workshop on Cocoa value chain development as the state is also rich in Cocoa.
