Staff of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Delta State Coordinating Office, have been further sensitised on the critical role of computer literacy in enhancing career growth and professional development.
The sensitisation took place during a one-day in-house training organised by the state office as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen staff capacity through continuous training and retraining.
Delivering a paper titled “The Indispensability of the Computer in Self-Development for Job Satisfaction and Self-Actualisation,” the resource person, a Deputy Director, in Project E Delta, Mr. Kevwe Mesango emphasised that computers have become essential tools in the modern workplace. According to him, they are indispensable for productivity, communication, learning and personal advancement.
Mesango noted that organisations across the world now rely heavily on computer technologies to improve efficiency, reduce operational costs and enhance service delivery, adding that the civil service is increasingly adopting paperless operations. He stressed that computers are no longer limited to document processing but have evolved into powerful instruments for self-development, career progression and job satisfaction.
He further explained that employees who embrace computer-based self-development are more adaptable, innovative and better positioned to contribute meaningfully to organisational goals. He encouraged staff to improve their digital competence by regularly practising computer skills, learning new software applications, enrolling in online courses, reading professional digital resources, joining relevant online communities and utilising productivity tools to organise their work effectively.
While calling on governments at all levels to sustain regular training programmes for workers, Mesango urged employees to take personal responsibility for their professional growth rather than relying solely on institutional support.
Earlier, the Delta State Coordinator of RMRDC, Mrs. Lesley Okoh, urged staff to take the training seriously, noting that it reflects the Director-General’s commitment to staff development and career advancement. She expressed appreciation to the Director-General, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso for approving the training and appealed for more capacity-building initiatives to further enhance staff performance.
Participants also appreciate the management of RMRDC for the opportunity giving to them to build capacity in that regard.
