The office recently visited the Mambilla Tea production company in Jalingo, Taraba State to discuss possible areas of partnership to promote tea production in the region.
Speaking during the visit, the RMRDC, Taraba State Coordinator Mr. Abraham Jolly noted that though the State is home to Africa’s biggest Highland Tea production, less than 10% of Nigeria’s 27 million metric ton tea demand is met locally.
To address the challenge, the RMRDC is proposing the production of improved seedlings for tea farmers in the state. He further stated that the Council will train the farmers to advance their skills on best practices in tea production and processing for maximizing yield.
Mr. Abraham Jolly was pleased with the visit, and encouraged the tea factory in Gembu, Mambilla Plateau, to ensure that all hands are put on deck for the success of the tea sector.
The RMRDC team also visited Mambila Beverages Nig. Ltd. to explore collaboration opportunities. The company’s area manager expressed enthusiasm for the potential partnership.
