As part of efforts to ensure quality service delivery and anti-corruption best practices, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council through its Anti-corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) organized a one-day training session for staff of the Ogun state coordinating office recently on ways and strategies that will strengthen accountability and ethical practices in government operations.
The Deputy Director RMRDC, Dr. Oluremi Elusoji who facilitated the training said the program was purposely initiated to educate staff on ACTU’s initiatives, legal framework, and operational guidelines to combat corruption in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Olusoji highlighted the importance of the establishment of Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit in MDAs to monitor, report, and prevent corrupt practices within government institutions, describing ACTU, an extension of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). She cited government circulars (Ref. No. OHCSF/MSO/192/94 and Ref. No. OE/MS/MSO/196/S1/7) that formalized its creation in 2001 and 2003.
During her presentation, Olusoji gave an overview of the ACTU standing orders and its provisions, highlighting tools for effective implementation of anti-corruption measures in MDAs.
She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training to strengthen and guide their individual daily dealings and institutional integrity.
In his remarks, the RMRDC Ogun State Coordinator, Mr. Rabiu Basiru described the training session as highly informative and educative, adding that the training will equip staff with the knowledge desired to promote transparency and accountability in their respective offices.
