The Director General, Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Professor Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso, has expressed confidence that for any research to be effective, it must have definite positive impacts on the nation’s economy.
Prof. Ike-Muonso made this assertion when he received Professor Mikano M. Ari, a Senior Lecturer with the Nasarawa State University (NSUK) and a team of other distinguished senior lecturers from the University, who paid him a courtesy call in his office recently.
Professor M. M. Ari who represented the Vice Chancellor of the University expressed the university’s interest to collaborate with the Council in the research area of agricultural based raw materials, saying that the University was ready to partner with the Council to develop raw materials for the agro industrial sector.
Responding, Prof. Ike-Muonso said the Council would collaborate with the institution provided that the research objective will create a positive impact on the nation’s economy.
“That’s the only measurable indicator of the relevance of the research,” said the Director General.
The DG emphasized that the Council will only engage in collaborative research activities which are result driven and time bound.
The DG also stated that the visit was an opportunity to request the University to create course programs for the study of the economic principles to focus on investment opportunities based on raw materials availability and development methods for the Council’s scientific officers. He requested that the course be designed to enhance the capabilities of students whilst creating understanding to add value to the nation’s vast raw materials resources.
Prof. M. M. Ari assured the DG that a course program as well as a comprehensive curriculum will be designed by the institution as requested for the new program as the Council remains the Federal Government parastatal mandated to carry out research into the development of the nation’s raw materials for its economic transformation with a globalised impact.
