The Osun State Coordinating Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has facilitated an on-site assessment of the engineering infrastructure of Nigeria Machine Tools (NMT), Osogbo. The visit was carried out by a delegation from the RMRDC’s Technology Development Department (TDD), led by an Assistant Director (MVRMCD, Engr. Raheem D. M., alongside the Osun State Coordinator, Mr. Adeyemi Saheed A., and others.
The purpose of the visit was to gather field data on current technologies employed in the production of lever and clutch levers for the Nigerian motor vehicle sector, as well as to explore potential areas of collaboration to enhance local manufacturing capacity and promote the use of indigenous resources in the automotive industry.

Speaking during the visit, Engr. Raheem disclosed that the Director-General, RMRDC, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, recently approved a project aimed at domesticating TEKCAST spin technology for the automobile industry in Nigeria. He explained that the initiative necessitated a visit to Nigeria Machine Tools, one of the nation’s foremost manufacturing companies, to assess its potential as a strategic partner in the implementation of the project.
According to Engr. Raheem, the project seeks to promote and develop local industries, reduce dependence on imported technologies, and conserve foreign exchange. He emphasized that the initiative would focus on producing key automobile components such as brake and clutch levers for motorcycles and expressed optimism that collaboration with Nigeria Machine Tools would play a crucial role in achieving these objectives.
In his remarks, the Osun State Coordinator, Mr. Adeyemi Saheed A., expressed appreciation to the management of Nigeria Machine Tools for their warm reception and cooperation. He noted that the visit followed a previous engagement by the Osun-RMRDC Coordinating Office, which had yielded promising outcomes. Mr. Adeyemi highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing national industrial development, driving innovation, and promoting sustainable economic growth.

Welcoming the delegation, the Training and Product Development Manager of Nigeria Machine Tools, Engr. Alexander Igweze expressed the company’s readiness to collaborate with RMRDC on the TEKCAST spin technology project. He showcased the company’s production capabilities during a guided tour of the showroom, emphasizing NMT’s capacity to deliver high-quality engineering products and services.
Mr Adeyemi on behalf of RMRDC, commended Nigeria Machine Tools for its advanced technical capabilities and production infrastructure. He however, noted the need for the company to increase public awareness about its operations and achievements to attract more strategic collaborations.
The visit concluded with a comprehensive tour of the company’s facilities, including its machine tools workshop, foundry, heat treatment, and sheet metal fabrication sections. The RMRDC delegation expressed appreciation for the hospitality and transparency demonstrated by the management and staff of Nigeria Machine Tools throughout the engagement.
