The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Osun state Coordinating Office paid a courtesy visit to West Stone and Marble Processing Company Limited, on August 8th, 2024 in Ikirun, Osun State.
The visit aimed to discuss the challenges faced by the company in its production processes, assess the company’s raw material utilization and processing techniques, and explore how RMRDC’s mandate could help address these challenges. The goal is to reduce the importation of readily available raw materials and promote the use of local content in Nigeria.

The state coordinator Mr. Odunukan Babatosin outlined the Council’s vision, mission, and the purpose of the visit. The primary goal was to understand the obstacles encountered by the Company and to offer solutions that align with RMRDC’s objectives.
Responding, the CEO and founder of West Stone and Processing Marble Company, Mr. Kayode welcomed the team and expressed his gratitude for the visit. He highlighted that limestone is the major raw material used in his organization, which can be processed into various products useful in different industries. He explained that limestone is used in steel companies for lining furnace walls, by water corporations for water purification, and in the production of fertilizer and paint.
Mr. Kayode detailed the efforts and steps he has taken to ensure his company operates at maximum capacity. However, he has faced significant challenges, including the lack of modern machines necessary for producing hydrated lime.
He explained that sourcing limestone is challenging due to transportation costs and availability. The closest source is in Kwara State, as limestone is not available in Osun State.
The CEO then took the RMRDC team on a tour of the facility, showcasing the production process, which involves grinding limestone using a pulverizer machine and other stages before arriving at the finished products.

Mr. Babatosin and his team assured Mr. Kayode of the Council’s commitment to working with different sectors, particularly industries that prioritize the utilization of local raw materials. He emphasized that the new management team at RMRDC is dedicated to supporting industrial growth.
This visit marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration between RMRDC and local industries to enhance the utilization of Nigeria’s raw materials and reduce dependency on imports.
