The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) have agreed to collaborate on reviving the dormant fruit juice pilot plant project in Paiko, Niger State. The project, begun in 2019, by both agencies, and proposed for replication in six geo-political zones of the federation, aims to reduce post-harvest losses by processing excess fruits into juice and concentrates for local consumption, providing a sustainable income source for farmers.

As part of the collaboration, an on-site visit has been scheduled to be conducted by representatives from both agencies. The visit marks the beginning of a partnership that will also involve intellectual property packaging and technology transfer, R&D commercialization drive, and research linkages.
During a courtesy visit to the RMRDC Headquarters, NOTAP’s Director-General, Dr. Barr. Lady Obiageli Amadiobi, emphasized the need for collaboration to make the project economically viable.
RMRDC’s Director-General, Professor Nnannyelugo Ike-Muonso, assured NOTAP of the Council’s commitment to the partnership. Highlighting potential areas of cooperation, including laboratory upgrades and a database of Nigerian professionals, he requested NOTAP’s assistance in establishing laboratories under NOTAP’s upgrading laboratories program and training RMRDC personnel on intellectual property technology transfer offices.
The partnership between NOTAP and RMRDC is expected to significantly impact Nigeria’s raw materials sector and the economy. With a focus on promoting research commercialization in Nigerian universities, the collaboration is poised to drive innovation and sustainable development in the country.
