In a renewed effort to strengthen integrity, accountability, and transparency in public service, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), organized a one-day sensitization workshop for staff of the Nasarawa State Coordinating Office.
The workshop, themed “Managing with Transparency,” brought together senior officers and stakeholders to equip them with knowledge, tools, and actionable strategies to prevent corruption and promote ethical practices within their operations.
Speaking during the event, the resource person Dr Cyril Hamilton emphasized that the training was timely, given Nigeria’s current developmental challenges. He noted the government’s ongoing efforts to fight corruption, uphold the rule of law, create jobs, combat hunger and poverty, and improve access to finance for businesses. “Anti-corruption strategies are key to restoring public trust in institutions,” he said.
He lauded the establishment of Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as a significant step toward combating systemic corruption. His presentations outlined what constitutes corruption, its legal implications, preventive measures, and the essential role of leadership in promoting a culture of integrity and accountability.
He cautioned that corruption is not limited to financial misconduct alone but also includes unethical practices in recruitment, staff promotion, and disciplinary actions. “Corruption may never be entirely eradicated, but with conscious efforts, it can be minimized,” he added, urging participants to remain vigilant and proactive. “When you see something, say something,” he emphasized.
In his remarks, the Nasarawa State Coordinator of RMRDC, Mr. Alaku Yakubu Audu, commended the Director General/CEO of RMRDC and the ACTU unit for their initiative and commitment. He assured that the State Office would fully align with the council’s vision and play its part in advancing the government’s anti-corruption agenda.
The sensitization workshop is expected to enhance ethical awareness, reinforce compliance with due process, and serve as a catalyst for effective and transparent service delivery within the council and beyond.
