In a landmark move to promote skin health and raise awareness on evidence-based skincare practices, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Nasarawa State Office, in collaboration with the Tropical Derma Research and Training Institute (TDRTI), successfully conducted a 10-day National Free Skin Care Analysis program from 13th to 27th May 2025 across various locations in Nasarawa State.
The initiative, which culminated in a comprehensive free skin analysis session held from 28th May 2025, aimed to improve skin care awareness and encourage the use of local raw materials for healthier living. It emphasized natural skincare practices including proper hydration, consumption of fruits and vegetables, protection from harmful UV rays, and informed use of cosmetic products.
As part of RMRDC’s mandate to research and develop local raw materials for industrial growth, this partnership with TDRTI underscored the need for eco-friendly, home-grown solutions in skincare.
A highlight of the program was the use of dermascopy machines to analyse and diagnose participants’ skin conditions. Key indicators such as pigmentation, skin moisture, elasticity, age, fibre, and collagen levels were examined. Solutions and preventive measures were then provided based on individual diagnoses.
Participants were drawn from diverse institutions and communities, including the Federal University of Lafia, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Lafia East Household Environment, College of Health Science and Technology Keffi, Marhum Academy Keffi, Elkabir Estate, and Alyaseen Secondary School Lafia.
Mr. Alaku Yakubu Audu, Nasarawa State Coordinator of RMRDC, alongside his staff, led the coordination efforts. Mr. Danjuma Suleiman Wase headed the five-member analysis team, sensitizing participants on the dangers of harmful chemical-based skin products and the benefits of using skin-friendly alternatives derived from Nigerian natural resources.
The event also served as a platform to gather data on local skincare needs and promote research-driven, environmentally sustainable skin products, aligned with RMRDC’s broader industrial and health objectives.
