In a bid to bolster education on mineral resources and create a highly skilled future workforce, the project manager of the Brain Wealth Project (BWP), Mr. Oludele Olusegun, paid a courtesy call to the Katsina State Coordinating Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) on the 27th of July 2024.
He was warmly received by the State Coordinator, Mr. Abubakar Yusha’u, and other staff members. The meeting, tagged as the “1st Consultative Meeting between the RMRDC and the BWP,” aimed to discuss collaborative efforts for a new educational curriculum.
The Brain Wealth Project focuses on developing a curriculum that integrates both theoretical and practical knowledge on value addition to the state’s mineral resources. This initiative aims to enhance the knowledge base on mineral resource processing and train a highly skilled workforce for the future.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Olusegun emphasized BWP’s partnerships with local and international organizations, including the National Commissions for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (NATCOM-UNESCO) in Nigeria and across African countries. He highlighted the crucial role of RMRDC at the national level in adding value to locally sourced mineral and agricultural resources, underscoring the necessity of their collaboration on this project.

Mr. Abubakar said the partnership with RMRDC is a welcomed idea. He explained that RMRDC’s mandate is to develop raw material resources for optimal utilization as a catalyst for economic development, essential for global competitiveness. He noted that Katsina State boasts significant deposits of metallic and non-metallic industrial minerals, supporting hundreds of mineral processing industries that contribute to both local and national economies.
Mr. Abubakar further elaborated on RMRDC’s initiatives, such as the Annual Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools, designed to stimulate interest and innovation among youth in local raw materials and their value chains. He assured that the State Coordinating Office would notify the Council and adhere to its core mandate during the exercise.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to foster a productive partnership, aiming to significantly impact the educational landscape and mineral resource development in Katsina State.
