In a bid to unlock the economic potential of its mineral resources, the Zamfara State Government, under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing the mining sector through collaborative efforts with private investors and research institutions. This commitment was highlighted during a comprehensive tour of key mining sites and mineral processing facilities in the Anka and Maru Local Government Areas of the state.
During the tour, Governor Lawal visited Comet Star Industry, a leading privately-owned mining company based in Anka, where he praised the organization for its professionalism and efficiency in resource extraction and processing. He underscored the critical role of the mining sector in driving economic diversification and aligning with national development objectives, particularly in areas such as value addition to raw materials, research-driven industrial growth, and sustainable economic expansion.
‘Zamfara is endowed with vast mineral resources, and we are committed to ensuring that these assets contribute meaningfully to our economic transformation,’ stated Governor Lawal. ‘By fostering partnerships with private operators and leveraging cutting-edge research from academic and institutional stakeholders, we aim to unlock new opportunities for growth, innovation, and sustainable development’, he added.
In Maru, the governor engaged with local miners, assuring them of the government’s support in enhancing their operations. He announced plans to provide technical assistance, streamline the registration process, and supply modern equipment to promote legal and efficient mining practices. Governor Lawal also encouraged miners to form cooperatives, register officially, and comply with regulatory frameworks to maximize the benefits of government-led initiatives.
This initiative is part of a broader national campaign spearheaded by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) to formalize artisanal mining, strengthen regulatory oversight, and integrate scientific research into the raw materials value chain. By aligning with these efforts, Zamfara aims to position itself as a leader in sustainable and innovative mineral resource management.
The governor’s visit reflects a strategic commitment to fostering inclusive growth in the mining sector while promoting environmentally sustainable practices and technological innovation. Through these collaborative efforts, Zamfara seeks to transform its mineral wealth into a catalyst for socio-economic development, benefiting both the state and the nation at large.
