In commemoration of the International Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day on June 27, 2025, stakeholders across various sectors convened in Imo State for an Innovative Business Clinic Hour designed to empower local entrepreneurs. The event, spearheaded by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in collaboration with key agencies and institutions, focused on the theme: “Enhancing the Role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises as Drivers of Nigeria’s Economic Growth.”

Speaking at the event, the Imo State Coordinator of RMRDC, Mr. Enemuo David C. underscored the critical role of quality raw materials in local manufacturing. He encouraged MSMEs to utilize RMRDC’s array of patented research products to enhance value addition in processing, which he described as a catalyst for job creation and economic stability.

The Imo State Coordinator of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), Mrs. Joyce Binitie, speaking during the event emphasized the need to equip MSMEs with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive in a competitive economic environment. Binitie urged participants to actively engage with representatives from participating organizations, make strategic inquiries, and form collaborative networks to strengthen their enterprises.

Dr. (Mrs.) Gift Nnenna, Centre Manager at the Technology Incubation Centre (TIC), spoke on the need for improved access to finance and sustained capacity-building programs. She called on entrepreneurs to leverage available support structures to promote innovation, stressing the vital contribution of MSMEs to national development, particularly in employment generation and poverty reduction.

Addressing persistent financial challenges faced by MSMEs, Mrs. Ifeoma Onyia, State Coordinator of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), highlighted the importance of digital transformation and sustainable business practices. She called for collective efforts to ensure MSMEs are adaptable to evolving market demands.

Representing the financial sector, Mr. Uchenna Obi of Fidelity Bank introduced tailored financing packages aimed at supporting MSMEs, with special provisions for women-owned businesses. His presentation offered practical solutions for entrepreneurs seeking access to credit and financial planning services.

The interactive sessions during the Business Clinic Hour allowed participants to engage directly with various stakeholders at exhibition stands, fostering valuable dialogue and partnerships.

The 2025 International MSME Day celebration in Imo State served as a powerful reminder of the need for continuous collaboration among government institutions, private financial entities, and the entrepreneurial community. It marked a significant step toward unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s MSMEs by equipping them with resources and insights necessary to navigate the country’s evolving economic landscape.
