A pivotal meeting took place at the State Secretariat Complex on June 16 2025, where the Imo State Export Promotion Committee convened with Honourable Commissioner Chief (Barr.) Rex Anunobi. The primary focus of the discussions centered around aligning efforts with the One State One Product initiative, aimed at maximizing the region’s economic potential through targeted agricultural exports.
The committee’s representatives shared a comprehensive progress report during the session, underlining the crucial need for robust support from the Imo State government to enhance the initiative’s effectiveness. The selected products for this ambitious program include oil palm, cassava, cashew, pineapple, and rubber—each recognized for possessing strong value chains and commanding significant global market demand.
Hon. Anunobi expressed the government’s unwavering commitment to providing necessary resources that would ensure the initiative’s success. He highlighted the myriad benefits anticipated from the One State One Product program, which include economic growth, job creation, and improved living standards for the citizens of Imo State. The Commissioner urged all stakeholders involved to persist in their efforts and foster collaborations to achieve the program’s objectives effectively.
An essential part of the discussions revolved around strategies aimed at attracting investment, offering training and capacity-building opportunities for farmers and processors, as well as establishing efficient marketing and distribution channels. The meeting concluded on a hopeful note, with a collective commitment to successfully implement the One State One Product initiative in Imo State.
The Commissioner made a significant commitment to support the committee by arranging a meeting with Governor His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, aimed at strengthening state backing for the initiative and driving progress in Imo State’s non-oil export sector. The RMRDC State Coordinator concluded the event by thanking attendees and reaffirming the committee’s dedication to achieving the initiative’s objectives. Key stakeholders in attendance included Mrs. Ebere Orji, Acting Permanent Secretary; Mrs. Ezeala A. C., Director of the State Ministry of Trade, Commerce, and Investment; Mr. Enemuo David, RMRDC State Coordinator, Mr. Tony Ajuruchi, NEPC Imo State Coordinator, . Osuala Christopher – NASSI and Dr. Duru Princewill, OCCIMA.
As Imo State embarks on this ambitious journey, the collaboration between governmental bodies and the Export Promotion Committee stands as a testament to the resolve for sustainable economic development through strategic agricultural exports.
