The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has called on its staff to adopt a more effective and efficient approach to implementing the Performance Management System (PMS) in service delivery. This call was made during a one-day training session titled Practical Applications of Performance Management System, held at the Conference Hall of the Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board recently.
The training, which was the second in the series, aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the principles and practical use of the PMS. It was facilitated by Mr. Isa Abdullahi from the RMRDC headquarters in Abuja.
In his opening presentation, Mr. Abdullahi emphasized the importance of understanding the Council’s vision, mission, mandate, and strategic goals as foundational to the effective application of the PMS. He urged participants to familiarize themselves with the functions and operations of the Director General’s office, as well as the Council’s various departments, divisions, and sub-divisions.
A key highlight of the session was a hands-on walkthrough of the PMS portal. Participants engaged in a practical demonstration of the system’s functionalities in a collaborative and interactive environment.
Discussions during the training focused on crucial elements of performance evaluation such as Key Results Areas (KRAs), Performance Monitoring (PM), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and the appraisal process. Mr. Abdullahi stressed the need for staff to adopt SMART objectives—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—when selecting and executing projects. He reiterated that aligning new initiatives with the Council’s strategic goals is essential for measurable impact.
In his remarks, the Bauchi State Coordinator reaffirmed Bauchi State commitment to the full implementation of the PMS, describing it as a permanent feature of the Council’s operational framework. He encouraged all staff to take ownership of the system and actively engage with the PMS portal for improved performance outcomes.
