With the objective to turn routine tasks into measurable results, Jigawa State’s Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) workforce have begun on a journey to develop their abilities through hands-on Performance Management System (PMS) training. The workshop, held recently, at the Council’s coordinating office in Dutse, aimed to reform how staff set goals, track progress, and deliver on the council’s strategic mandate.
Facilitated by Mr. Usman Abdulrazaq from RMRDC Headquarters in Abuja and coordinated by Mr. Abdulhameed Muhammed, the training targeted Heads of Units, and general staff with a focus on task delegation. Participants were equipped with tools to set SMART objectives, implement continuous performance monitoring, and foster a culture of accountability across all operations.
Through a mix of theory and practical exercises, attendees learned how to align individual output with organizational priorities, improve resource management, and strengthen engagement with stakeholders. A short evaluation at the end of the session gauged the depth of understanding and readiness to apply the new framework in their daily work.
Mr. Abdulrazaq emphasized that the PMS framework would not only improve staff efficiency but also create a clear pathway for career progression within the council. He noted that by measuring results rather than activities, the council could better identify high-performing employees, address performance gaps, and allocate resources more effectively.
Speaking on the long-term benefits, Mr. Muhammed highlighted that embedding a results-driven culture would improve service delivery, strengthen partnerships with industry players, and enhance RMRDC’s capacity to support local manufacturing through innovative raw materials research. He added that the council’s leadership remained committed to sustaining such capacity-building initiatives.
The training forms a key component of RMRDC’s ongoing institutional reform agenda, designed to integrate performance measurement into daily operations. By strengthening internal capacity and accountability, the council is positioning itself to play a more impactful role in driving Nigeria’s industrial development and supporting the nation’s economic diversification goals.
