The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), in partnership with the Tropics Derma Research and Training Institute (TDRTI), has launched a free skin health analysis initiative in Enugu State, aimed at promoting awareness and improving dermatological health among Nigerians.
The innovative program, commenced at the RMRDC Enugu State Coordinating Office, with staff members of the Enugu office as the first beneficiaries. The exercise later extended to employees of other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the state. Additional sessions are scheduled to take place in major areas across Enugu State over a 10-day period.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Ifeanyi Oduanya, Senior Scientific Officer at the Enugu office and a participant in the TDRTI Abuja-based training, emphasized the initiative’s significance. He highlighted that participants would receive comprehensive skin assessments, including skin type identification, diagnosis of potential dermatological conditions, and personalized skincare guidance.
Data gathered through the initiative will be instrumental for TDRTI in formulating skincare products specifically tailored to African, and particularly Nigerian, skin profiles. This effort not only aims to improve public health by encouraging safe skincare practices and reducing reliance on harmful cosmetic products, but also aligns with RMRDC’s objectives of fostering industrial development through research, local raw material utilization, and health-oriented innovation.
Their joint leadership highlights the Council’s dedication to promoting community-driven research and enhancing public health advocacy at the grassroots level.
