In a strategic move to institutionalize a performance-driven culture, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) conducted a comprehensive one-day training on the use of its Performance Management System (PMS) for staff of the Oyo State Coordinating Office. The training took place on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, at the Council’s premises in Ibadan.
The session was facilitated by Mr. Suleiman Abubakar Ciroma, a representative from RMRDC Headquarters in Abuja, delegated by the Director-General/CEO, Professor Martins Ike-Muonso Nnanyelugo.
The training aimed to upskill staff in the effective use of the Council’s PMS platform a digital tool designed to streamline task management, strengthen accountability, and align staff outputs with national development goals.
Welcoming the facilitator and participants, the Oyo State Coordinator Office, an Assistant Director, Mr. A.O. Adeogun described the training as timely and transformational. He emphasized that the PMS would enhance both individual performance and team productivity, thereby positioning the Council for more data-driven planning and reporting.
The interactive session covered key modules including navigation of the PMS dashboard, setting SMART objectives, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), real-time task tracking, performance reviews, and feedback mechanisms.
Participants engaged in hands-on demonstrations tailored to their roles, with Mr. Ciroma guiding them through live scenarios to ensure full comprehension of the system’s functions.
“The training was not just theoretical; it was practical, detailed, and aligned with our work realities,” noted a participant from the State Office. “We now see how performance can be tracked transparently and how it links with our institutional goals.”
In his closing remarks, Mr. Adeogun expressed gratitude to the facilitator and the Director-General for prioritising staff development. He urged staff to immediately begin implementing the skills acquired, adding that periodic performance check-ins would be conducted to reinforce adoption. Feedback forms were completed at the end of the training, and a follow-up refresher session has been scheduled for the coming month.
The PMS training marks a critical step in RMRDC’s broader vision of building a performance-based public service that is accountable, transparent, and responsive to national priorities. The Council’s investment in staff capacity development continues to reflect its commitment to innovation and operational excellence.
