The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) is set to strengthen Nigeria’s mining sector, according to the State Coordinator of the Kwara State RMRDC Office, Mrs. Lydia Adewumi. This was disclosed during an industrial visit to Er-Kang Mining Company, a lithium processing firm based in Kwara State, on May 2, 2025.
The Head of Administration, Er-Kang Mining Company, Mr. Me, while receiving the team from RMRDC, provided an update on the company’s operations. According to him, the company was established in Nigeria in 2022, focusing on lithium processing and production of concentrate powder for export. The Company has made significant progress completing the first phase of its machine installation with a production capacity of 1000 tonnes per day. Looking ahead, the company plans to launch a new production line for pharmaceutical products, further diversifying its operations.

He lamented to the team that the company is currently facing challenges due to a significant drop in concentrate powder market value, likely caused by a global downturn in lithium prices; however, the company remains committed to its operations.
Mrs. Adewumi lauded Er-Kang Mining’s focus on lithium processing, noting its alignment with the RMRDC-sponsored 30% Value Addition Bill and the central themes of the upcoming Africa Raw Materials Summit.
Extending invitations for crucial upcoming events, Mrs. Adewumi encouraged Er-Kang Mining’s participation in the Summit, which is scheduled for May 20-22, 2025, at the Ladi Kwali hall in the Continental Hotel, Abuja, where the Council will host representatives from 72 nations. She also invited the organization to Kwara RMRDC Investors’ Forum, planned in June 2025 in Kwara State.
She emphasized the significance of these platforms for fostering networking, showcasing industrial capabilities, attracting investments, and tackling the challenges within Nigeria’s mining sector. She concluded by commending the company’s resilience and determination in the face of current difficulties.
