In a strategic effort to promote local solutions for skincare and the utilization of indigenous raw materials, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Ebonyi State Coordinating Office, in collaboration with the Tropics Derma Research and Training Institute (TDRTI), has launched a 10-day Free Skin Care Analysis Initiative across 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State.
The program, which officially commenced on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, is designed to raise awareness about skin health while promoting the development of affordable, locally-sourced skincare products. The analysis will be conducted in various community hubs, including schools, churches, and recreational centers.
The first phase of the initiative was held at Ebonyi State University Secondary School, where students underwent the initial round of skin analysis. Addressing the staff and students, the Senior Scientific Officer at RMRDC, Mr. C.I. Diribe, provided an overview of the procedure. He explained that the analysis focuses on the T-zone and U-zone of the face, which are critical in identifying various skin types. These include normal skin, oily skin, combination dry, and oily skin.
Mr. Diribe further stated that the data collected from participants will be forwarded to TDRTI for comprehensive analysis and research. The findings will serve as a foundation for the development of safe and effective skincare products, tailored to the unique dermatological needs of Nigerians. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with RMRDC’s core mandate—to promote the development and utilization of Nigeria’s industrial raw materials.
In his remarks, the Principal of Ebonyi State University Secondary School, Mr. Fidelis Ozibo expressed appreciation to the Council and its partners for choosing the school as one of the starting points of the initiative. He noted that the program was both timely and impactful, adding that RMRDC’s presence is increasingly felt across the state, particularly through activities such as the Raw Materials Quiz Competition.
The skin care analysis campaign is expected to continue in the remaining local government areas over the coming days, bringing expert-led, science-backed skin assessments to communities across Ebonyi State.
