The Director General/CEO RMRDC has affirmed that the Council will partner with the National Palm Producers Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) and Bio-Mass Aggregators, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (BAPMAN)to revamp the oil palm sub-sector for industrial and economic growth.
The DG RMRDC, Prof. Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso revealed this when NPPAN and BAPMAN paid him a courtesy visit at the RMRDC Headquarters, Maitama Abuja, on the 29th of July, 2024.
Speaking during the visit, the National President of NPPAN Ambassador Alophonus Inyang, said that the association, which is the umbrella body of all players in oil palm value chain development in Nigeria, is seeking collaboration with the Council for the production of oil palm as well as the full exploration and utilisation of palm bio mass.
He noted that oil palm is an economic fruit that if invested in, has the capacity to lead a new economic and industrial renaissance in Nigeria.
Ambassador Alophonus further noted that Nigeria is the fifth producer of palm oil in the world, therefore, the need to look at the potentials available in its processing and development.
According to him, oil palm by-products such as the bio mass, can be used to produce furniture materials with High Density Fibreboard (HDF), Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), particles board and plywood. “It can also be used for electricity generation, green energy development, fertilizer and herbal drinks”.
The National Presidents both NPPAN and BAPMAN informed that their visit was to initiate the involvement of RMRDC, an agency of the federal government with mandate in raw materials processing, development and utilisation for industrial growth, to be part in championing the project.
In his response, the DG RMRDC said the visit has reawaken his interest in palm produce. He said that RMRDC will be work with the association, seeing that processing and development of palm oil is one areas he considers important.
He added that the development in the Sub-sector is a way forward for Nigeria.
Prof. Ike-Muonso thanked the team for visiting and notified them that he looks forward to all hands being on deck to achieving this project.
