RMRDC, NIFOR, and NACOFTAN Partner to Boost Coffee and Tea Value Chain in Taraba State

In a strategic move to enhance the coffee and tea value chain in Taraba State and other producing regions across Nigeria, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), the National Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR), Benin City, Edo State, and the National Coffee and Tea Association of Nigeria (NACOFTAN) have entered into a collaborative partnership on Friday 25th April 2025.
The tripartite collaboration is aimed at providing expertise support in boosting the coffee and tee production along its value chain. This involves provision of premium quality seeds, providing agricultural extension support, inter cropping of coffee and tea with palm tree in Taraba State for economic transformer the sector.

RMRDC was fully represented at the deliberation by the Director of the Agriculture and Agro-Allied Department (AAD), Dr Seb Ebierekwe; Director of Investment Promotion and Consultancy Services Department (IPCSD), Mr. Adamu Yaro .M and the Taraba State Coordinator of the RMRDC, Mr. Musa Waziri.

The RMRDC Edo State Coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Otoikhila said the partnership is in the right direction as it will boost the economy of Nigeria. He stated that Edo state RMRDC would follow up to ensure the project is a huge success. He also commended the Director-General RMRDC, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso for his visionary leadership and commitment to raw materials development.

The meeting featured fruitful discussions with the Executive Director of NIFOR and the management of NACOFTAN. Each party agreed to specific roles aligned with their institutional mandates, aiming to support the development of the coffee and tea sectors for sustainable wealth creation and socio-economic development in Taraba State and Nigeria at large.

To formalize the partnership, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed at the RMRDC Headquarters in Abuja. The signing ceremony will be attended by the Executive Director of NIFOR and the National President of NACOFTAN.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward revitalizing Nigeria’s coffee and tea industry, creating new opportunities for farmers, investors, and communities in key production belts.
