The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Kogi State Office, has taken a bold step towards digital transformation with the successful completion of a hands-on training session on the Performance Management System (PMS). Held on July 29, 2025, the training equipped staff with essential skills to navigate the new digital platform, marking a significant shift from traditional paper-based processes to a streamlined, efficient system.
The event, facilitated by Mrs. Azuka Uchendu, began with an opening address from the State Coordinator, Dr. Peter Adegede who emphasized the critical role of PMS in enhancing workplace accountability and performance tracking. Mrs. Uchendu introduced the system by breaking down its core components: Performance, Management and System to represent: Measuring staff output, overseeing tasks and goals, and a structured digital platform for seamless operations, respectively.
She highlighted the SMART-AR framework for setting objectives, ensuring goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound, Assignable, and Rewardable. This approach aligns individual performance with the Council’s broader strategic vision.
Participants were taken through the platform’s functionalities, including:
- Key Result Areas (KRAs): Clearly defined duties tailored to each staff member’s role.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Quantifiable metrics to assess performance.
- Task Management: Tasks assigned by the State Coordinator, with real-time email notifications and digital submission requirements.
The shift to PMS eliminates paper-based workflows, requiring all documents to be scanned and submitted electronically. This move not only enhances efficiency but also supports the Council’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The State Coordinator confirmed that traditional appraisal forms will be phased out by December 2025, in compliance with the Director-General’s directive and the Head of Service’s mandate for a paperless system.
Mrs. Uchendu concluded the session by urging staff to fully adopt PMS as a tool for self-improvement and career advancement. Each completed task contributes to a performance score, which will play a pivotal role in future promotions.
The transition to PMS represents a leap forward for RMRDC, fostering transparency, efficiency, and innovation in line with global best practices.
