In a bid to enhance organizational efficiency and drive productivity among its workforce in all its offices, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has rolled out a structured set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The Borno state Coordinating office had her session recently in a 1-day training aimed at monitoring staff performance through the Performance Management System (PMS).
This strategic move aligns with the Council’s broader mandate of promoting industrial development through effective resource utilization, with a renewed emphasis on accountability, transparency, and measurable output. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to standardize performance evaluation metrics and ensure that public sector employees are delivering on their roles in line with national development goals.
According to the Deputy Director, Food and Beverages Division (FBN), Mohammed Sheriff Musa, that the Performance Management System (PMS/RCU) have been carefully developed to reflect the Council’s core objectives and the specific operational requirements of its Borno State office, structured with KPIs which include measurable targets such as timely report submission, project execution rates, stakeholder engagement, research output, and resource management efficiency and so on.
Speaking on the development, he also highlighted that the PMS framework will not only serve as a tool for assessing performance but will also provide a feedback mechanism for professional development and improved service delivery. “This initiative is a proactive step towards fostering a performance-driven culture within the public service,” he added that “By aligning our staff’s goals with the Council’s strategic vision; we can better measure impact and encourage continuous improvement.”
Mr. Sheriff emphasized that the PMS system is designed to be fair, transparent, and development-oriented, allowing for regular performance reviews and tailored support where necessary. Also, the data collected through the PMS will help to inform future capacity-building initiatives and strategic planning efforts.
The implementation of KPIs and PMS in the Borno State Coordinating Office is part of a broader institutional reform aimed at boosting the Council’s operational efficiency across all its offices nationwide. By embedding performance measurement into daily operations, RMRDC is positioning itself to contribute more effectively to Nigeria’s industrial growth and economic diversification agenda.
As RMRDC, continues to set the pace in performance management within the public sector. Its efforts in Borno State stand as a testament to the power of strategic planning, structured evaluation, and continuous improvement.
