In a strategic move to strengthen efficiency, the Raw Material Research and Development Council (RMRDC) organized capacity-building training for staff of the Kaduna State Coordinating Office. Focused on the Performance Management system (PMS), the session was facilitated by Dr. (Mrs) U Ugonna, Deputy Director of the Performance Management System (PMS/RCU), and aimed at aligning staff productivity with the Council’s objectives.

The initiative emphasized the critical role of the PMS in fostering accountability, transparency, and data-driven decision-making across RMRDC’s operations. Dr. Ugonna’s presentation highlighted actionable strategies to integrate performance management with council reforms, ensuring Kaduna State staff are equipped to meet evolving organizational demands.
Key focus areas included: Goal Alignment: Setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) objectives for individuals and departments to directly advance the Council’s strategic mandate.
Continuous Monitoring & Feedback: Leveraging real-time performance tracking tools and biannual evaluations to maintain productivity and address gaps proactively.
Talent Development: Using performance data to design targeted training programs and leadership pipelines, ensuring readiness for future roles.
Recognition & Compliance: Linking performance outcomes to rewards while adhering to labor laws and public service regulations.
Dr. Ugonna stressed the importance of the PMS framework, noting, when staff understand how their contributions fit into the Council’s broader goals, it fosters ownership, innovation, and sustainable growth. she also elaborated on tools like Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) to resolve underperformance and maintain high standards.
Speaking on behalf of the Kaduna State Coordinating Office, the state coordinator Mr. J S Mutallab expressed appreciation to the Director General/CEO, Prof. Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso for organizing the training. The coordinator emphasized that effective performance management is crucial for achieving the Council’s mandate and assured that the lessons learned would be implemented to enhance service delivery.
Participants commended the training for its practical approach and relevance to their daily responsibilities. They noted that the session had deepened their understanding of performance evaluation, feedback mechanisms, and the importance of aligning individual efforts with council goals.
The training underscored the Council management’s commitment to harmonizing performance standards across RMRDC’s state offices. By standardizing PMS practices, the Council aims to ensure uniform excellence in service delivery, resource management, and stakeholder engagement nationwide.
As RMRDC intensifies its role in Nigeria’s raw material development and industrialization agenda, initiatives like this training reflect dedication to empowering staff as catalysts for progress. The Kaduna State team is now better positioned to leverage PMS tools, driving efficiency in their operations while contributing to the Council’s vision.
