This was disclosed when a team from the University led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya paid a visit to RMRDC headquarters in Abuja. They were received by the Director General Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso and members of the management in his office.
The partnership aims at commercializing the anti-tick vaccine that will address the challenge of tick infestation that cattle breeders and milk producers within the country and across the continent encounter that affects their cattle.
Prof. Tanko Ishaya informed that it is a thermostable vaccine which Professor Abraham Dogo, the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Phytomedicine of the university, developed. He observed that the vaccine is a nouvelle development in the field of veterinary medicine and it had great potential to ensure food security in the nation and the continent, particularly in the livestock sector where tick infestation is prevalent.
“This infestation posed a challenge to the quality of beef and meat yields from the sector as well as reducing the quality of leather produced in the country”, he stated.
Professor Ike-Muonso applauded the University for the development and assured the visiting team of the Council’s readiness to partner and work towards achieving commercialisation for the vaccine.
