Demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing staff capabilities and fostering awareness of significant legislative developments, the RMRDC Bauchi State Coordinating Office recently held its regular bi-weekly in-house seminar, featuring presentations on essential communication skills and a key legislative proposal. The event, hosted at the RMRDC Bauchi office, highlighted the importance of effective letter writing in achieving organizational success and provided an insightful overview of the RMRDC’s proposed bill aimed at revolutionizing Nigeria’s raw materials sector.
The Chief Confidential Secretary, Mr. Shehu M. Abdullahi commenced the seminar with a presentation on letter writing, emphasizing its indispensable role in organizational communication. He underscored that letter is a crucial tool for conveying information, instructions, decisions, and clarifications, all of which are vital for efficient daily operations and the attainment of organizational goals. Mr. Abdullahi also highlighted that effective letter writing is key to organizational excellence, as many struggles with producing grammatically sound, well-structured, and neat letters. The presentation also covered the formats of letters, including full block, semi-block and indented letter formats, explaining their key components and providing samples.
Following this, Mr. Andrew A. Tyoh, Scientific Officer, spoke on the need to create more awareness through effective communication of the proposed Raw Materials Value Addition Bill. He gave an overview of the RMRDC’s proposed bill and its critical importance to raw materials development.
Mr. Tyoh discussed Nigeria’s historical reliance on raw materials exports and the urgent need for legislative intervention to promote value addition before exportation.
He reiterated the RMRDC’s mandate to foster innovation in raw materials processing and the bill’s ambition to steer Nigeria towards a more diversified economy. Mr. Tyoh explained that to transform the sector, the bill includes key provisions such as import prohibition, exporter certification, tax incentives and RMRDC’s enforcement mandate.
The seminar was met with enthusiastic reception from participants. Mr. Eli M. Titus expressed his gratitude to the presenters, emphasizing the importance of the bill in transforming the council “into a new global research institute with enforcement powers”.
The State Coordinator, Mr. Turaki Wambai, reaffirmed the office’s dedication to continuous learning and development. This bi-weekly seminar continues to be a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and capacity enhancement among the RMRDC Bauchi staff.
