In line with the catch-them-young initiative by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) to inculcate an understanding of the importance of raw materials and their allied research activities in the present-day world across the primary and secondary schools, the Head, Lagos Office Directorate, Mr. Oluwasola Marinho, has called for the inclusion of “Raw Materials Club” in the extra-curricular activities of secondary schools in Lagos State. This is to enable students familiarize themselves with the natural resources of the nation and the investment opportunities available there-in.

The initiative was put forward when a Non-Governmental Organization, Environmental Safety Awareness and Right to Healthy Living Initiative (ESAARTHLI), a youth club consisting of students from various secondary schools across Lagos State, paid a visit to the RMRDC Lagos Office Directorate’s Resource Centre, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Speaking during the working visit, the Founder and Project Coordinator of ESAARTHLI, Mrs. Grace Nwodo Amadi said, the visit was part of the efforts of the NGO to enhance environmental health practices and natural resource management through grassroots participation, while at the same time educating students on the nation’s available raw materials, their value-chains and applications.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Marinho, while welcoming the pupils and their teachers, on behalf of the Director-General, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, described the children as leaders of today and urged them to start acquiring entrepreneurial skills to avoid total reliance on white-collar jobs in the future.
