The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) paid a courtesy visit to the Osun State Ministry of Mineral and Natural Resources, marking a significant step towards fostering collaboration and promoting economic development in the state.
During the visit, the Osun State Coordinator of RMRDC, Mr. Adeyemi Saheed, expressed gratitude to the Special Adviser to the Governor of Osun State, Professor Lukman Adekilekun Jimoda, for the warm reception. Mr. Adeyemi also thanked the Governor of Osun State, His Excellency Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, for facilitating the state’s participation in the last Africa Raw Materials Summit held in Abuja.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke for his visionary leadership and commitment to economic development in Osun State. His Excellency’s participation in the Africa Raw Materials Summit is a testament to his administration’s dedication to harnessing the state’s mineral resources for sustainable growth,” Mr. Adeyemi said.

The RMRDC Coordinator also discussed the recently passed RMRDC bill, which mandates 30% value addition to raw materials before export. Although the bill is still undergoing further legislative action, it demonstrates the Council’s dedication to promoting local production and reducing import dependence.
Professor Lukman Adekilekun Jimoda welcomed the RMRDC team and introduced the Executive Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Nurudeen A. Bello, and other key department heads. He described the visit as timely and important, acknowledging the pivotal role RMRDC plays in the country’s and state’s economic development.
The Special Adviser emphasized the importance of value addition to raw materials, stating that it is “better late than never” and crucial to the country’s development. He proposed possible areas of collaboration, including joint site visits to mining industries and sites in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Nurudeen A. Bello, lauded the RMRDC team’s visit and highlighted the state government’s initiatives in developing the mining sector. He mentioned the Omoluabi Mineral Promotion Company Limited, a state-owned company established in 2006 to promote and develop minerals in Osun State.

The RMRDC team was taken on a tour of the mini laboratory, which is almost ready for use in processing and producing gemstones in the state. This initiative is expected to boost development and create new opportunities for economic growth.
The visit demonstrates the commitment of both RMRDC and the Osun State Ministry of Mineral and Natural Resources to collaborate and promote economic development in the state. By working together, they aim to unlock the potential of Osun State’s mineral resources and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
