The examination, designed to assess qualified personnel for promotion opportunities, was conducted across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to ensure equitable access for eligible staff members nationwide.

The Southwest regional examination took place at Awesome College CBT Center in Town Planning, Ilupeju, Lagos State, serving as the designated venue for qualified staff from the region.

In line with public service protocols that mandate transparent and merit-based promotional processes, the examination brought together 25 senior staff members who met the eligibility criteria from across six southwestern states.

The participants comprised 10 staff from Lagos State Coordinating Office, 6 from Ogun State, 5 from Ondo State, 2 from Oyo State, 1 from Osun State, and 1 from Ekiti State. This distribution reflected the qualified candidates from each state who satisfied the public service requirements for promotional consideration, including years of service, performance evaluations, and educational qualifications.

Mrs. Tari Giwa-Osagie, a Deputy Director from RMRDC headquarters in Abuja, served as the examination coordinator, ensuring compliance with established public service examination standards, and maintaining the integrity of the promotional process. Her presence underscored the organization’s commitment to following proper administrative procedures as mandated by civil service regulations.

The examination encountered significant operational challenges, which resulted in the examination starting behind schedule. The technical difficulties further complicated the proceedings, with candidates experiencing network connectivity issues during both the login phase and submission process, these technological setbacks tested the patience of qualified staff members who viewed the examination as a crucial step in their career advancement within the public service framework.

Despite the challenges, Mrs. Giwa-Osagie worked diligently to maintain order and reassure participants, demonstrating the professional conduct expected in public service administration. Her efforts to manage the situation reflected the organization’s commitment to ensuring all qualified staff received fair treatment throughout the promotional process.

The computer-based examination consisted of 80 comprehensive questions specifically tailored to evaluate candidates across three critical areas: their individual schedule of duty, Public Service Rules (PSR), and current affairs. This structured approach ensured that candidates were assessed on their job-specific competencies, understanding of civil service regulations and procedures, and awareness of contemporary issues relevant to public service delivery. The questions were completed within a strict 80-minute timeframe, maintaining standardized conditions that ensured uniformity and fairness in assessment.

The examination format reflected best practices in public service promotional assessments, testing not only technical knowledge related to each candidate’s specific role and responsibilities but also their grasp of the regulatory framework governing public service operations.

The inclusion of current affairs questions demonstrated RMRDC’s recognition that effective public servants must remain informed about national and global developments that could impact their work and service delivery.

In keeping with modern public service efficiency standards, results were made available to candidates within minutes of submission, providing immediate feedback on their performance across all three assessment areas. This quick turnaround demonstrated RMRDC’s commitment to transparency and prompt communication with staff regarding their promotional prospects, essential elements of good governance in public service administration.

The successful completion of the examination, despite operational challenges, represents another step in RMRDC’s ongoing commitment to structured career development and merit-based advancement for all qualified personnel within the public service system.
