The Ogun State Government has announced its intention to actively participate in the 2025 Africa Raw Materials Summit, scheduled for May 20–22 at the Ladi Kwali Conference Centre, Abuja Continental Hotel.
The disclosure was made known during a strategic meeting between the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Ogun State Office, and the State Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment represented by the Head of the Raw Materials Resource Centre, Mr. Olanrewaju G.O. The meeting took place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the RMRDC State Office, Block D, Parastatals Building, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
In his remarks, Mr. Olanrewaju G.O., representing the Honourable Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mr. Emmanuel Shofela, affirmed the state’s commitment to participate and exhibit at the summit. He informed that the government of Ogun State is delighted to have the state participate in the event.
Mr. Olarewaju highlighted Ogun State’s abundant solid minerals, such as kaolin, gypsum, mica, feldspar, phosphate, tar sand, limestone, clay, and copper, alongside its rich agricultural resources. This summit is an avenue to project Ogun State’s natural endowments and market-driven research breakthroughs to the world, he said, adding that the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration has approved full participation.
The RMRDC Ogun State Coordinator, Mr. Rabiu Basiru, commended the state government for its longstanding partnership with RMRDC and emphasised the need for the state to play a leading role at the summit, given its status as Nigeria’s industrial and economic hub. He noted that the event, themed “Shaping the Future of Africa’s Resource Landscape,” offers a prime opportunity to showcase Ogun State’s vast mineral resources to over 1,000 global participants, including researchers, investors, policymakers, and industry leaders.
He further praised Governor Abiodun’s commitment to development and industrialisation under the mantra, “Ìjọba Ìpínlẹ̀ Ògùn Àjọṣe gbogbo wa ni” (The Ogun State Government is for all of us). He assured the delegation of technical support to ensure a successful exhibition at the summit.
The event is expected to foster discussions on unlocking Africa’s raw materials potential, promoting local processing, and adopting cutting-edge technologies in resource utilisation. Ogun State’s participation will further strengthen its position as a key driver of Nigeria’s industrial and economic growth.
