In a bold step to promote safe, science-backed skincare practices and curb the use of harmful and unregulated cosmetic products in tropical regions, Ogun State has officially launched a Free Skincare Analysis Outreach Exercise.
The initiative, led by certified skincare analysts trained by the Tropics Derma Research & Training Institute (TDRTI) in collaboration with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), commenced on 14th May, 2025, at the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Abeokuta.
A total of 93 individuals were successfully examined during the kickoff event using AI-powered skin analysis tools. The analysis assessed key skin health indicators such as sebum level, pigmentation, moisture, elasticity, and collagen fiber, providing participants with personalized reports and professional advice on safe, effective skincare.

The Ogun State Coordinator, Mr. Rabiu B.O., addressed participants, highlighting the national relevance of the outreach. He stressed that the exercise not only improves individual skin health but also supports Nigeria’s broader mission to harness its local raw materials for the development of safe, affordable, and sustainable skincare products.
Also present at the event was Mr. Oyajimi Kehinde Monsuru, Principal Scientific Officer, who offered his full support to the analysts. He commended the initiative as a timely intervention and encouraged more public and institutional engagement to ensure the success of the program across the state.
According to Adeniyi Sakiru, a certified skin analyst with RMRDC, the outreach is part of a wider agenda to discourage harmful skincare practices and to collect vital data for the formulation of natural, Nigeria-made skincare solutions.
“This outreach is about changing narratives,” he said. “We want Nigerians to embrace science-based solutions made from our own resources—products that are safe, effective, and tailored for our environment and skin types.”
The program will continue across several institutions and communities in Ogun State, reaching more individuals and raising awareness about healthier, smarter skincare choices.
This initiative aligns with the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science & Technology (FMIS&T) and RMRDC’s strategic goal to advance local content, reduce import dependence, and promote the sustainable use of indigenous resources in Nigeria’s personal care sector.
