Seasoned researcher and inventor, Professor Umar Bindir, has emphasized the need for enhanced research-industry synergy to drive the commercialization of research outcomes in Nigeria.

Speaking at the RMRDC Senior Management Staff retreat organized by the Raw Materials Research and Development council (RMRDC) for Directors of the Council at the prestigious Arcade Suites, Abuja, recently, Professor Bindir stressed that collaboration between researchers and industry stakeholders is crucial for national development. He noted that enhanced research-industry synergy is vital for commercialization and that Collaboration between research institutions, governments and off-taker Stakeholders fosters innovative solutions and economic growth. He said Researchers should focus on industry-relevant projects.

“Commercialization of research outcomes requires a seamless interface between researchers and industry stakeholders. We must bridge this gap to drive Nigeria’s industrial growth and economic development.”
Responding, RMRDC Director-General, Professor Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso who was impressed with Professor Bindir for identifying accurately the associated problems of adoption and commercialization of research results in Nigeria, through his presentation, assured that the Council, under his supervision, will prioritize research-industry partnerships whilst fostering innovation and entrepreneurship and assist government, through programmes, in developing policies that will support commercialization.
Professor Ike-Muonso also explained that his administration was committed towards establishing research-industry collaboration platforms, developing industry-driven research agendas which will be implemented with the completion of the 17 laboratory infrastructure at the RMRDC Research and Plants Demonstration Complex at the Obasanjo Space Center, Lugbe, Abuja.
He reiterated his resolve to attract additional funding for these projects through partnerships and strengthening of policy frameworks supporting commercialization. The DG revealed further that the Council would at a set date convene stakeholders’ forums to discuss research agendas and launch research-industry collaboration initiatives.
