The Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Area, Dr. Aminu Hassan, has initiated a strategic partnership with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Taraba State Coordinating Office, to promote youth development through vocational training and innovative use of local raw materials.
The collaboration is centered on the newly established Jalingo Local Government Skills Acquisition Centre, an initiative championed by Dr. Hassan to empower youth and drive inclusive economic growth through hands-on skills development.
The Center was designed as a strategic response to the growing challenge of youth restiveness in the community. Recognizing that unemployment and lack of skills are key drivers of social unrest. It is aimed at equipping young people with practical entrepreneurial and vocational skills that will enable them to become self-reliant, productive members of society. Such as: Poultry and Animal husbandry, Cosmetology and Jewelry, Home Economics and Cookery, and ICT and Basic Computer Operation, etc.

In response, a high-level delegation led by RMRDC Taraba State Coordinator, Mr. Musa Waziri, conducted an assessment tour of the Centre to evaluate its infrastructure, capabilities, and prospects for partnership. Other members in the delegation included: Coordinator, Made-in-Nigeria Products, Mr. Peter Ishaya; Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Centre, Taraba State University, Mr. Mohammed Babale; Director General, Taraba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (TACCIMA), Mr. Ben Zhema and NACOFTAN North-East Coordinator, Engr. Peter Yuguda.
The visit focused on exploring collaboration in key areas such as:
• Joint vocational and entrepreneurial training programs
• Utilization of local raw materials in product development
• Promotion of Made-in-Nigeria products
• Technical support from the Taraba State University Entrepreneurship Centre
The delegation was received by Hon. Bashir Yakubu, Coordinator of the Skills Acquisition Centre, alongside key Council officials.
During his remarks, Hon. Yakubu expressed appreciation for the RMRDC’s engagement and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to partnering on initiatives that promote job creation, innovation, and self-reliance. He emphasized Dr. Hassan’s dedication to empowering young people and pledged full cooperation in future collaborations.
The interactive session concluded with a shared commitment to transform the Centre into a hub for skills acquisition, enterprise development, and sustainable economic advancement in Taraba State.
The visit marks a significant step toward harnessing local resources and talent through public-private collaboration, positioning the Jalingo LGA Skills Acquisition Centre as a catalyst for youth empowerment and regional development.
