The Secretary General of the African Academy of Science (AAS), Professor Christopher Okonofua made this known when he led some members of the Academy on a courtesy visit to the Director General of RMRDC, Professor Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso in Abuja on Friday, August 16, 2024.
Prof Okonofua, while commending RMRDC for taking the lead in promoting science for development, pointed out that there are still untapped areas of science that the collaboration between the Academy and RMRDC can explore for the benefit of Nigeria’s industrialization drive in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The AAS Secretary General emphasized that the upcoming conference of the Academy affords RMRDC a unique opportunity where it can showcase its innovative projects and breakthroughs at the exhibition.

Responding, the RMRDC Director General, Prof Ike-Muonso assured the Academy of the Council’s full support and participation at the Conference. He informed the guests that the Council was being repositioned to bring back science into its operations. Prof Ike-Muonso stated that with the restructuring of the Council, the Technology Innovation Centre is being upgraded to a Research and Demonstration Plant Complex (RDPC) that will provide technical and advisory support to manufacturers and local industries. He revealed that on completion, the RDPC will become a one-stop Complex of over seventeen (17) state-of-the-art laboratories as well as residency for researchers from across the country.
Both RMRDC and the Academy agreed to work out the necessary modalities for the collaboration.
