Momentum is building across the continent as Nigeria prepares to host the inaugural African Raw Materials Summit 2025, a high-level gathering aimed at redefining the future of Africa’s development through strategic management of its vast raw materials.
Scheduled to take place from May 20 to 22, 2025 at the Abuja Continental Hotel, the summit is being organized by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) under the theme: “Shaping the Future of Africa’s Resource Landscape.”
With over 1,000 participants expected—including government officials, policymakers, industry captains, researchers, and investors from across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas—the summit will spotlight innovation, value addition, and industrial transformation as vital tools for sustainable economic growth on the continent.

Speaking ahead of the event during a tour to significant organisations to galvanize support for the summit, Professor Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, Director-General of RMRDC, emphasized the urgent need for Africa to move from being merely a supplier of raw materials to becoming a hub for value-added processing and industrial development. He said, “Africa possesses a significant share of the world’s raw materials, yet we struggle with value addition and sustainable development.” He also noted that, “This summit is a clarion call to rethink our approach and collaborate across borders for mutual economic advancement.”

The three-day event will feature a blend of keynote addresses, technical sessions, exhibitions, and investor matchmaking forums. Delegates will engage in strategic discussions around topics such as:
