The Ogun State Coordinating Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) joined the Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to commemorate World Food Day 2025, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Food and Future.”
The event was held on recently, at the Ministry of Agriculture Pavilion, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. It aimed to raise awareness about global hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition, while promoting actions to build sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems.
The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owootomo, officially declared the event open. He expressed delight at the turnout of participants who came from various parts of the state to exhibit their agricultural products.
He emphasized the commitment of the current administration under His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to empowering farmers and implementing programmes that enhance food productivity, value addition, and food availability, highlighting key sectors such as crop production, livestock, and aquaculture as areas of focus.

Hon. Owootomo also noted the administration’s ongoing efforts, including the rehabilitation and construction of production and processing facilities across farm settlements in Ogun State. According to him, the celebration is an opportunity for reflection on achievements and a renewal of the government’s commitment to eradicating hunger and malnutrition.
He commended the hardworking farmers and stakeholders whose continuous efforts have sustained the state’s food systems and contributed significantly to economic growth.
The Commissioner urged farmers to work collaboratively, share knowledge, build partnerships, and support one another to create a better future for Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Sowunmi Shogunle, a representative of the Farm Settlers Council, described the day as a remarkable one for all farmers in the state. He used the opportunity to appreciate the state government for the visible improvements across farm settlements and clusters.
He pointed out several key projects by the government such as, solar-powered chicken processing center, modern pen for poultry farming, cassava processing center and maize drying center
These, he said, have drastically reduced post-harvest losses and improved the ease of processing farm produce.
Also speaking, Hon. Dasa Olu, the South-West Coordinator of Commodity Farmers, thanked the Ogun State Government for its various interventions. He urged the government to strengthen efforts in securing farmers from herder-related conflicts across the state.
He further appreciated the government’s support in data generation for herders. He revealed that his office had successfully gathered data on herders in two local government areas, with plans to extend the coverage. He appealed to the government to adequately support the committee tasked with overseeing this initiative.
The event also featured remarks from the Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, who expressed gratitude to all participants for their presence and support.
RMRDC Ogun State Coordinator was represented by Mr. Oyajimi K.M, Principal Scientific Officer and Mr. Akinlade L.A, Higher Executive (Investment) Officer.
