As part of its proactive efforts to foster collaboration and deepen industry engagements, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has initiated strategic interactions with key stakeholders in the paints and coatings sector. These engagements took place during the inaugural West Africa Coatings Show (WACS), at the Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, from July 3rd to 5th, 2025.
The event served as a vital platform for which the Council leveraged to inform stakeholders on Council’s achievements, aspirations and strategic direction going forward.
During the engagements, the Lagos State Coordinator, Mr. Oluwasola Marinho encouraged stakeholders to candidly discuss the challenges facing their respective companies as this would afford the Council the opportunity to assess them, while also proffering solutions to the challenges.
The sessions were highly interactive and productive, bringing honest feedback and exchange of actionable suggestions geared towards enhancing stakeholder participation and the overall impact of RMRDC initiatives.

One of such interactions was the engagement with Chemstar Industries Nig. Ltd., where the Group Managing Director, Mr. Adedayo Paseda, highlighted specific challenges affecting the sourcing and utilization of local raw materials in the company to include, the inability of the local substitutes, for instance, carbon black, to meet international standards of some parameters like opacity and ease of dispersion.
The company emphasized the need for investment in the development of advanced processing equipment to improve production efficiency and overall quality of their products.
To further strengthen the engagement, Mr. Marinho proposed the scheduling of an industry visit to the company to gain first-hand insights into operational realities and explore other areas of strategic support and partnership.
Mr. Marinho also took the opportunity to sensitize some stakeholders on forth-coming Nigeria Manufacturing and Equipment (NME)/ Nigeria Raw Materials (NIRAM) (NME/NIRAM) Exposition, inviting them to participate in the event.
He noted that the event is a strategic platform to showcase innovations, form strategic partnerships, and explore new business opportunities. He encouraged stakeholders to take advantage of these platforms not only to expand their networks, but also to remain up to date with emerging technologies and market trends relevant to their industries
