The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has pledged commitment to rejuvenate the agro-industrial sector in Adamawa State. The RMRDC Adamawa State Coordinator Mr. Honda Honda, on behalf of the DG RMRDC, Professor Nnanyelugo M. Ike-Muonso made this pledge during a working visit to AFCOTT Nigeria Limited, Adamawa State.
Mr. Honda who led the Council delegation to AFCOTT stated that the aim of the visit was to assess operational challenges at the plant and identify collaborative solutions to restore production and to partner with the company, which is a soybean processing plant based in Yola in Soybeans value chain development.
Mr. Honda stressed the importance of reviving agro-processing industries like AFCOTT to stimulate local production, create employment opportunities, and strengthen economic development in the region.
AFCOTT NIG LTD, formerly a major supplier of refined soy oil to both domestic and industrial markets, suspended operations due to the increase in price of raw materials and inconsistent electricity supply.

The AFCOTT’s Production Manager, Engineer Sa’ad Isyak, expressed his appreciation to the Council and emphasized the company’s readiness to resume full-scale production if these barriers are effectively addressed. He said he is enthusiastic that the company bounce back and do even much better with the partnership.
RMRDC then pledged support in key areas, including the facilitation of access to improved soybean varieties, the promotion of energy-efficient processing technologies, and the exploration of renewable energy sources such as solar and biomass.
In his remark, Mr Honda stated that “This partnership aligns with our mandate to enhance raw material availability and industrial growth. By supporting companies like AFCOTT, we are taking concrete steps towards achieving national self-sufficiency and sustainable development”.
The visit concluded with a mutual agreement to pursue a long-term partnership focused on reviving Adamawa’s agro-industrial base and contributing to broader national economic objectives.
